The Blatenský vrch ( German Plattenberg ) is one of over 1000 meters high mountains of the Erzgebirge in the immediate vicinity of Horni Blatna ( mountain town plates).

History

The massif consists mainly of granite. Already in the early modern period prevailed in the vicinity of the mountain brisk tin and iron ore mining, on the foundation of the neighboring mountain town of plates is due in 1534.

Origin of the name

The name of the disk mountain is created with high probability by its relatively plate- shape. Especially coming from the south it rises hardly be seen from the plateau of the Ore Mountains.

Touristic development

The wolf and Eisbinge at the foot of the mountain attracted the early 20th century, more and more tourists to the mountain plate, so that the winter sports club in the mountain town boards decided to build on the top of an observation tower with guest house. The 21 m high tower was named Archduchess Zita - lookout tower and was opened in 1913. In the twenties enjoyed the Plattenberg so popular that a hall cultivation and the relocation of the entrance to the mountain hotel were required during the year 1927.

After the 1946 expulsion took place almost all German residents from Czechoslovakia mountain hotel was empty, it fell into ruin and was demolished around 1970. Only the observation tower remained standing and can be visited today.

Location

The plate mountain lies on the territory of the municipality Potůčky, but in the immediate vicinity of Horni Blatna. He can be reached in about 20 minutes walk from Horni Blatna station on the railway Carlsbad Johann George Town. It also performs a narrow access road to the summit, which branches off from the road Horni Blatna - Bozi Dar ( Gottesgab ).

  • Northwest: to Johanngeorgenstadt and Auersberg,
  • North: to Breitenbrunn and Rittersgruen,
  • Northeast: the Pöhlberg and Fichtelbergbahn,
  • East: Klinovec (Wedge Mountain )
  • Southeast: for Plešivec ( Pleßberg )
  • South: to Egergraben.

Routes to the summit

  • From Johann George Town on the pedestrian border crossing to Potůčky ( Breitenbach ) on the Anton -Günther - way, first the green, then the yellow signs up through the forest to follow (about 8 km).
  • From Bozi Dar ( Gottesgab ) red-marked trail on main Bludná ( Irrgang ) to the summit (about 15 km).
  • Who selects the descent to plates inside the summit, reached after a few hundred meters the Eispinge ( ledová Jama). It is a narrow and deep gorge, formed by the collapse of transitions from the tin mining in the foundation phase of the city. Due to the location holding onto the bottom of the canyon always cold (heavy ) air. This has the consequence that the therein falling snow is not completely thawed in the summer. The descent into the canyon is possible on a secured way. Supposedly you have to cut 1813 Battle of Leipzig from the Ping for ice and packed into this straw, loaded onto crates and taken by horse and cart to Leipzig to cool the wounds of the injured.
  • The most convenient way branches as narrow driveway from the road Horni Blatna ( mountain town plates) - Bozi Dar ( Gottesgab ) and leads thence north to the summit ( about 1 km).
  • About the Summit leads the Anton -Günther - way.
