Blauort

Blauort is the German North Sea coast of Dithmar (near Büsum) upstream, uninhabited high sand ( outdoor sand), which measures about 1,200 meters in north-south direction and 500 meters in east-west direction. It is surrounded by the sandbar Blauortsand, which is bounded on the north by Priel Wesselburener hole and in the south of the beep.

The Blauort wanders like all dirt and Hochsände Islands on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein steadily eastward. From 1938 to 1962, the sand per year moved about 32 meters landward, at the time, the distance to the coast approximately six kilometers. Blauort protrudes above the average high tide level ( here at 1.83 m above sea level. NN ) and is completely flooded only in spring or storm tides. There is no vegetation on Blauort. Since 1985 Blauort, one of the few largely untouched habitats on the coast and is of great importance for seabirds and seals is part of the zone I of the National Park Schleswig -Holstein Wadden Sea.

Blauort is indicated by a beacon Blauortbake. In the summer months, guided walks across the mudflats to Blauortsand Büsum and Wessel Boers are offered.

The Buesumer writer Stefanie Bach Stone called one of her books of poetry Blauort.
