The Bleibtreusee as one of the medium-sized lakes in the chain of lakes in the Ville is a nutrient-poor, calcareous Still waters at Brühl Heath, not far from the mountain lake Heider. It is in the waters around artificial, created by former lignite open cast mines remaining lakes with shallow water, surrounded by forestry used larger forest areas with site-specific mixed woody plants. An example is the change of poplar, pine, red oak, larch, alder, beech, locust and birch.

The lake has an area of about 74 ha small oblong island at the southern edge of the breeding birds remains Reusees is reserved and has naturally untamed vegetation. By Spangehl & pawing Berg ( 1985) the occurrence in North Rhine- Westphalia was first described from the Heider mountain lake at Brühl, where the species is still to be found. In addition, the island as a result of eutrophication in Bleibtreusee west densely formed wide Unterwasserfarnflächen below the surface, which would severely impede water sports with sailing dinghy or windsurfing boards and are therefore hedged.

At the margins of water bodies can be found, among other things: Little hedgehog piston ( Sparganium minimum) - Common water bladderwort (Utricularia vulgaris) - Broad-leaved helleborine ( Epipactis helleborine ).

Furthermore, it should be maintained or expanded by the development and promotion of reed zones of the water habitat for many migratory waterbirds in the fall and winter and other aquatic animals such as amphibians ( toad, Bufo viridis) and aquatic insects (eg, scarlet dragonfly, Ceriagrion tenellum ).
