Bleiswijk ( listen? / I ) is a village and a former municipality in the Netherlands, South Holland province. On 1 January 2007 Bleiswijk was merged with the municipalities Bergschenhoek and Berkel en Rodenrijs the new community Lansingerland.

Location and economic

Bleiswijk located 5 km east of Zoetermeer and 12 km west of Gouda along the A12 motorway (Utrecht - The Hague). Also Rotterdam is not far; Bleiswijk from, a narrow, 12 km -long road to the south of this city.

In Bleiswijk there are two very large auction companies; " The Greenery " for vegetables, and FloraHolland for flowers, trees (including from Boskoop ) and garden plants. The limestone soil is fertile Bleiswijks. Therefore, the village itself has several nurseries with large greenhouses.

History

Bleiswijk is probably since the 12th century. A description from 1672 reports on Bleiswijk that it had its own jurisdiction including blood jurisdiction. This means that Bleiswijk was a considerable village at that time. As in other places in the region Schieland was recovered from peat bogs, which gradually formed the lake. This was 1771-72 drained. Witness of a mill and a lock. Since 1911, the water level is regulated by electric pumps in polder.

Attractions

  • The old village church from the 17th century;
  • The heavily visited recreation area Rottemeren to the rotting with water sports facilities and a small beach. It serves the residents of Rotterdam and the surrounding area as a substitute for, often unattainable by the many traffic jams, coast of Holland and Zeeland.
