Bergschenhoek

Bergschenhoek ( listen? / I ) is a former municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland north of Rotterdam. The municipality also the settlement belonged to De Rotte. On 1 January 2007 Bergschenhoek was merged with the neighboring communities Bleiswijk and Berkel en Rodenrijs the new community Lansingerland. All three former municipalities were part of the city region of Rotterdam ( Rotterdam Stadsregio ).

Bergschenhoek is a green residential community with many new buildings. There are quite a lot more expensive apartments. On 24 November 2004 the new village center was inaugurated. Along the river Rotte is a large nature and recreation area, " het Hoge s position Bergse Bos " with climbing, mountain bike trails and golf course.

Bergschenhoek is not far from Rotterdam Airport.

Partner community was from 1976 to 2006, the Austrian municipality of Maria Grossenzersdorf. Due to the merger of the community Bergschenhoek with surrounding communities, the partnership after 30 years was terminated because it is meaningful only between similarly-sized communities.

History

Around the year 1000 there was where now Bergschenhoek is a tidal mudflat. At the end of the Middle Ages the area was drained. Towards the end of the 15th century was from a branch of people in a corner near a mountain ( or den Hoek Hoek th nabij the Berch ) reported. Quick one spoke of the Hoek.

In the 18th century various polders were drained around Bergschenhoek. The village was part of the Ambachts ( field name) Hillegersberg and Rotteban. The three main residential areas were Hillegersberg, Terbregge and Bergschenhoek. An old frontier post, which stood between Bleiswijk and Hillegersberg Rotteban, now stands in front of the town hall of Bergschenhoek. 1811 Bergschenhoek separated from Hillegersberg.

From about 1990, the church grew enormously. In 2002, the municipality was the 13.4% percentage fastest growing whole in the Netherlands. From 5000 inhabitants starting the population rose steadily and is located in 2008 estimated at 23,000 inhabitants.
