Blindekuh (restaurant)

The blindekuh is a restaurant concept in Switzerland, where guests eat in the dark, and food can not see.

The Dark Restaurant is a company of Stiftung blind Liecht. This foundation aims to show the sighted people, as it is in the world of blindness and have what problems blind people to fight every day.

So when eating can not the eye " eat with ", but the smell, the taste, and not least in the form of food and awaken the senses. Guests are served by blind and visually impaired staff.

The first blindekuh was opened in a former chapel in Seefeld, Zurich on 17 September 1999. Early 2005, followed by another restaurant in Basel.

The blindekuh was honored with several awards:

  • Social and cultural price of Zurich Women's Club IFV
  • Lily Mountain entrepreneurs and Innovation Award
  • Social Innovations Award from the Institute for Social Innovation in London
