Blizzard

The blizzard is a severe snowstorm, which occurs mainly in North America. The term was first used in North America and is derived possibly from the German word " flash " from. The name of a heavy snow storm as Blizzard was later adopted in other regions such as the Antarctic and Northern Scandinavia ( Lapland ).

Origin and definition

A blizzard occurs, driven by strong cold air intrusion from the direction of the polar regions. Here, the polar cold air in low pressure areas to penetrate far to the south, as exist on the North American continent no running east -west mountain range.

A North American blizzard is defined by the following phenomena:

• High wind speeds from 35 mph ( wind speed 7 Bft)
• Large amounts of snow with visibility of less than a quarter mile (400 meters)

Blizzards are relatively rare. They occur most likely to occur in Canada and the Northern Plains of the United States, but can also afflict the entire northeastern United States and ensure chaotic weather conditions. The Black Blizzard is Blizzard, which like a sandstorm and soil along with it because of its high wind speeds.
