Blowering Dam

The Blowering Dam is a dam on the Tumut River in New South Wales, Australia, which was completed in 1968. The dam is the Blowering waterworks part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro - system.

The dam is 112 meters high and was formed from excavated earth and rocks. The volume of water in the reservoir is 1,628,000 megalitres ( million liters). The lake water is used for irrigation and power generation.

In April 2009, the government of New South Wales gave the order to secure the dam for $ 33 million to prevent flooding. The building is expected to last until the year 2011.

In the reservoir there are trout and walleye, which are partially protected. At the dam in the Snowy Mountains Highway passes.

The Australian racing boat driver Ken Warby holds the current world speed record of 511.13 km / h on the water, which he reached on the Blowering Dam on 8 October 1978, his boat Spirit of Australia. He is still the only person who drove faster than 300 miles on the water. The Spirit of Australia had Warby even designed and built.
