Blue Cliff Record

The Biyan Lu (Chinese碧 岩 录, Pinyin Biyan lù, W.-G. Pi -yen lu; jap碧 巌 录, Hekiganroku; German as records of the blue- green rocks ) is a collection of 100 Kōan in 10 fascicles from the heyday of Chinese Chan Buddhism of the Song Dynasty.

It was originally compiled by Yunmen Monk Xuedou Chongxian (Chinese雪窦 重 显, Pinyin Xuedou Chóngxiǎn, Hsueh - tou Ch'ung W.-G. -hsien; 980-1052 ) and later commented by Yuanwu Keqin (Chinese圜悟 克勤, Pinyin Yuanwu Keqin, W.-G. Yuan- wu K'o - ch'in, Japanese Engo Kokugon; 1063-1135 ).

The most famous German translation under the title Bi Yen Lu - transcript from the emerald rock wall comes from Wilhelm Gundert and appeared in 1960 in the Carl Hanser Verlag, Munich.
