Blue Öyster Cult
Blue Öyster Cult is an American hard rock band. The best-known singles are ( Do not Fear ) The Reaper from the 1976 album Agents of Fortune and Godzilla by the successor Spectres. BOC was the first to tape concerts in a laser show. The band is considered the inventor of the heavy metal umlaut.
History
Blue Öyster Cult was first founded in the 1960s as Soft White Underbelly on Long Iceland, NY. In 1968 it became the Stalk - Forrest Group and in 1970 led to the final name of Blue Öyster Cult (initially without Trema ) a.
The inferiority of the hard rock sounds with texts by writers such as Sandy Pearlman, Richard Meltzer and Michael Moorcock gave the musicians the reputation of being the heavy- metal band of the intellectuals.
While today would characterize the band's style as prog -like Hard Rock, she was inspired in her early years rather of formations as Velvet Underground, Doors and MC5. The reception of their albums is still limited to a large extent on the independent scene. The first three albums ( Blue Öyster Cult, Tyranny and Mutation, and Secret Treaties ) established the band as a psychedelic -inspired West Coast Rockact. They contained songs that are today regarded as classics, such as Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll, The Red & The Black, 7 Screaming Diz - Busters, ME 262, Harvester of Eyes and especially Astronomy. The concept album Imaginos, published in 1988, was supposed to be a solo album of longtime drummer Albert Bouchard. The lyrics to the songs from the 1980 album Black Blade Cultösaurus Erectus and Veteran of the Psychic Wars by the follow-up album Fire of Unknown Origin (1981 ) wrote fantasy author Michael Moorcock legend. When Black Blade is a song version of Moorcock's saga of eternal heroes ( Eternal Champion, the lyrics Cosmic Champion ) in its incarnation as Elric of Melniboné.
The two pieces of Heavy Metal - The Black and Silver and Vengeance - The Pact from the 1981 album Fire of Unknown Origin were for the movie Heavy Metal ( based on the eponymous comic magazine ) is determined.
