Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup

The Blue Stars / FIFA Youth Cup was founded on December 3, 1938 as Blue Stars Blue Stars tournament from FC Zurich. Since then, the tournament of youth football teams will annually held in Zurich via the ramp days.

From 1939 to 2007 209 teams from 35 countries have participated in this tournament.

History

1938-1950

The first implementation of the tournament took place on Ascension Day in 1939 with twelve teams. 1941 changed the organizers of the sports field Heilig field to the stadium Letzigrund The initial staging in a new stadium brought two innovations: The Zurich city took over the patronage and the number of participants increased to 16 teams. 1946 played in the first post-war years with FC Mulhouse with a foreign team. In subsequent years, more and more teams from abroad in the tournament participated.

1951-1990

1951 traveled with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the first time a team from England to Zurich. Since 1976, teams from Italy now also participated in the tournament ( and Others AC Milan, Inter Milan and AS Roma ). 1989 played with FC Barcelona the first Spanish team to the tournament.

Since 1991

In 1991, FIFA patronage. 1995 carried the name change of this international football tournament for today's Blue Stars / FIFA Youth Cup. 1999 won the Sao Paulo for the first time in the history of the Blue Stars / FIFA Youth Cup, a team from outside Europe. By the way into the new Letzigrund in 2009, the tournament attracted first for a year at the stadium Hardturmstraße and thereafter for a further two years on the sports complex book learning.
