Atalanta B.C.

Atalanta Bergamo ( officially Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio 1907) is an Italian football club from the Lombard city of Bergamo.

History

The club was founded in October 1907 as Società di Bergamasca Ginnastica e Sport Atletici " Atalanta " and went into its present form by merging with " Società di Bergamasca Ginnastica e Scherma " in 1920 produced. He called himself " Atalanta Bergamasca di Ginnastica e Scherma " in 1945 but renamed back to its still valid name " Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio ". Although Atalanta in their history mainly in Serie A, Italy's top soccer league belonged, the club of very big success was denied to this day. The team from Lombardy was to date no single time Italian national champion and is therefore one of the 1948 in which they finished the Serie A with number five, still the most successful championship year. The only club to success is to win the Italian Cup in 1963 ( 3-1 against AC Torino ), whose repeat it in 1987 ( against Napoli ) and 1996 ( against Fiorentina ) just missed when she twice subject only in the finale.

The recent decline in 18th of the season 2009/2010 was followed by the immediate promotion back to the elite class in 2011. Back in Serie A Atalanta, however, was penalized with a deduction of six points since the Atalanta player Cristiano Doni and Thomas Manfredini were suspected to be involved in a betting and match-fixing scandal. Former Atalanta captain Doni has since confessed to two Serie B games rigged to secure his team the rise. His club have, however, not know about. Manfredini, however, was acquitted of the charges. For Atalanta Bergamo even the season 2011/12 was quite satisfactory, but the season was completed despite the points deduction at the 12th place in the table.

Fan friendships

It is since 2000 an ultra- Fanbündnis between Atalanta fans, fans of the German Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt and fans of the Austrian Bundesliga FC Wacker Innsbruck, which is maintained until today.
