Blue Bird Aviation is a Kenyan charter airline based in Nairobi.

History

Blue Bird Aviation was founded in 1992 in Kenya. It has its seat and its base at Nairobi Wilson International Airport and employs more than 80 employees. Chairman of the company is located in the Retired Colonel HA Farah, who had served 25 years at the Kenyan Air Force.

Destinations

Blue Bird Aviation operates from its base Nairobi Wilson from several Kenyan targets, among other Mombasa, Lamu, Kisumu and the nature reserve of Masai Mara, as well as targets in various African countries such as Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. As a charter airline Blue Bird Aviation operates alongside passenger and transport planes through also use flights for medical emergencies.

Fleet

As of July 2013, the fleet of the Blue Bird Aviation consists of 14 aircraft:

  • 4 Bombardier Dash 8Q -100
  • 5 Bombardier Dash 8Q -400 ( 1 is currently being converted to cargo aircraft)
  • 2 Bombardier Dash 8Q -400 ( cargo aircraft )
  • 3 Fokker 50

Incidents

  • On May 23, 2004, there were about 30 kilometers south of Mwingi (Kenya ) to a mid-air collision between two transport aircraft Let L -410 Blue Bird Aviation. The aircraft with the registration 5Y - VVD crashed after hitting into an open field where the two- pilot crew lost their lives. The second involved machine with the registration 5Y - VVA was able to land safely despite heavy damage. Both machines were on the way from Nairobi to Mogadishu. The crashed plane transported 55 sacks of miraa with a weight of about 1500 kg.
  • On 9 November 2009 a transport aircraft Beechcraft 1900 crashed on landing approach to the airport from Nairobi Wilson. The aircraft with the registration 5Y - VVQ had started from Nairobi Wilson and should miraa transport to Mogadishu. Due to an event that occurred during the flight technical problem, the two- pilot crew decided to return to the Wilson Airport. Shortly before landing roamed the machine fencing of the airport area and crashed, one pilot was killed.
