Bo Holmberg

Bo Lindor Holmberg ( born November 17, 1942 in Härnösand, † February 10, 2010 in Stockholm) was a Swedish politician.

Biography

After visiting the community college ( Folkhögskola ), which he completed with an exam as Sozionom 1968, he worked as Assistant Professor, Planning Secretary and as Political Secretary.

Holmberg, a member of the Social Democratic Workers' Party ( Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti ) was, began his political career as a member of the Social Committee of his native town Härnösand 1969-1973. He was also from 1971 to 1976 as a member of the city council and even there from 1974 to 1976 Member of the Management Board. In 1978 he was elected district director in Ångermanland, where he was also a board member of SAP. In 1976 he was a member of the Provincial Assembly ( Landstingsråd ) of Västernorrland County.

After the election of the Swedish Parliament in 1982, he was appointed by Prime Minister Olof Palme on September 19, 1982 Minister of Municipal Affairs in the government. In a cabinet reshuffle, he then took over on 1 January 1983 the Office of the Minister of the Interior and held this office under Palmes successor Ingvar Carlsson until October 4th 1988 held. In these positions, he campaigned for a redesign of the administration, particularly through decentralization and entering into collaborations.

In the Reichstag elections in 1985 he was elected a member of the Reichstag and represented this constituency until 1996 Västernorrland County. In the Reichstag he belonged predominantly to the Social Committee, the Vice Chairman, he was initially from 1988 to 1991. After he was from 1991 to 1994 Chairman of the Committee, he was last to 1996 again Deputy Chairman of the Social Committee. During this period he was also Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee, which drafted the 1995 adopted reform of psychiatry ( Psykiatrireformen ).

After retiring from the Reichstag in 1996 he became head of the provincial government ( Landshövding ) of the province Södermanland County and held that office until 2005.

Between 2005 and 2006 he was most recently Director General of the Cabinet Office ( Regeringskansliet ) of Prime Minister Göran Persson.

Bo Holmberg was married to the Foreign Minister Anna Lindh was murdered in 2003 since 1991.
