Bob Scheifler

Robert William Scheifler (* June 24, 1954 ) is an American computer scientist.

Together with Jim Gettys mainly responsible for the development of the X Window System, he led the development from the beginning of 1984 until the closure of the MIT X Consortium in 1996. Later, he was one of the architects of the Jini from Sun Microsystems, which was today transferred as River to the Apache Foundation.

Scheifler graduated as B. S. in mathematics and M. S. in computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
