Bob Shoffner

Robert " Bob" Shoffner ( born April 4, 1900 in St. Louis; † 5 March 1983) was an American jazz trumpeter.

Shoffner grew up in St. Louis, first played drums before switching to trumpet and was in the First World War in a military band. After that, he played with Charlie Creath and came to Chicago in 1921, where he played until February 1927 at 1924 King Oliver. He had to give up because of problems with his lips. He played in 1928 with Charlie Elgar, with Earl Hines (1929 ), Erskine Tate (1931 ), with McKinney 's Cotton Pickers (1931 ) and Frankie Jaxon ( 1932). In 1934 he moved to New York City where he played with Fess Williams, Fletcher Henderson and the band of Hot Lips Page (1938). He then returned to Chicago, where he worked for the state of Illinois, but still occasionally played. The mid- 1940s he gave the music profession altogether. 1957 to 1963 he played with the Original Jazz All-Stars by Franz Jackson, with whom he recorded also.

He took on in the 1920s with the Blues Serenaders of Lovie Austin, Jimmy O'Bryant, Ida Cox, Luis Russell ( 1926), King Oliver, and later with Frankie Jaxon, Richard M. Jones and Jesse Stone.
