Bobby Few

Bobby Few ( born October 21, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American jazz pianist.

Life

Few began playing the piano at age seven and was trained in both classical and jazz. The organist Catherine Howland Forbes was his teacher of classical music, Benjamin Austin, he was trained in jazz. By JATP plates of his father suggested he finally turned more to jazz, while not neglected his classical training.

At 15, he founded in Cleveland, the East Jazz Trio with drummer Raymond Farris and bassist Cevera Jeffries Jr. The group, which played mostly standards, stayed together until 1962, subjected to the year as Few and Jeffries to New York, on the advice of Albert Ayler tenor saxophonist. Through his contacts with the New York music scene, especially the collaboration with Brook Benton, he was also the first opportunity to perform in Europe. In 1969 he came a second time to Europe, this time with Frank Wright Quartet, comprising Few, piano, Frank Wright, tenor sax, Noah Howard, Alto Saxophone and drummer Muhammad Ali. Few left in the same year settled in France and toured with Wright, Ali and Alan Silva in the quartet through Europe. In addition, however, he also played with Archie Shepp and Sunny Murray.

The quartet disbanded early eighties. This was followed by a collaboration with Steve Lacy until 1992. Few After 2000 worked as a soloist ( as on the album Continental Jazz Express), in duo with Avram Fefer ( Kindred pirits, 2003) or in a trio with Fefer and Wilber Morris ( Few and Far Between, 2000)
