Bocholtz

Bocholtz is a district of the municipality Simpelveld south of the Dutch province of Limburg. He is right on the eastbound border with Germany.

History and population

Until 1 January 1982 Bocholtz was an independent municipality, the last around 5358 inhabitants had ( census 1980).

The place name is probably Bocholtz of beech ( the tree or a beech forest ) derived, as in the German city of Bocholt.

The local dialect, called on Limburg " Bòcheser " is described as east Benrather line. He belongs in the same group as Ripuarian or middle Franconian. See also Zuidoost Limburg.
