Boediono

Boediono ( born February 25, 1943 in Blitar, East Java ) is an Indonesian politician and since 2009 Vice- President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Life

Career

Boediono began in the 1960s to study at the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. In 1967 he completed his economics degree at the University of Western Australia from Perth in 1972 and gained a master's degree at Monash University in Melbourne. In 1979 he received his doctorate from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Boediono subsequently worked as a Professor of Macroeconomics and Monetary Policy at the Gadjah Mada University.

Boediono was 1997-1998 Vice President of the Indonesian central bank, Bank Indonesia and then Minister for Rural Development from 1998 to October 1999. 2001 President Megawati Sukarnoputri appointed him finance their government. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed Boediono Minister of Economics in a cabinet reshuffle 2005. 2008 he was elected Chairman of Bank Indonesia. 2009 appointed him Yudhoyono to his running mate in the race for the presidency. After winning the election Boediono was elected Vice President of the Republic.

Boediono is married and has two children.
