Boerentoren

The most Boerentoren (Bauer Tower ) called skyscraper in Antwerp is considered the first skyscraper on the American scale in Europe. The name comes from the fact that the majority of the clients of Kredietbank who built the tower, were farmers. The successor company Kredietbank, KBC Group, uses the building to this day.

Occasion of the construction was the World's Fair in 1930, which was held in Antwerp. Originally 87.5 m high, measures the building for a conversion in 1976, in which the then existing apartments have been converted into offices, 97 m. To date, it is overlooked in Antwerp, of the Cathedral of Our Lady.

  • Before the Restoration it was feared that the Boerentoren, much like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, a skew has.
  • In good weather and clear day you can see from the top of Boerentoren the Atomium in Brussels.
  • The Boerentoren has the largest cellar of all Antwerp.
  • Tanja Dexters had planned in August 1999, a base jump from Borentoren, but did not get past the security personnel.
  • There were plans to subsequently even higher to build the Boerentoren to have the highest skyscraper in Europe. Other countries protested strongly against this proposal as it would go here just about to have " the greatest ".
