Bogucice

Bogucice ( German: Bogutschütz ) is a district of Katowice, lies about 2 km northeast of the city center. Bogucice has around 15,000 inhabitants. The district consists of one dating from the 19th century part and a couple of new settlements.

History

From December 15, 1360 the first documentary mention of the place, even if the foundation was probably already in the 13th century.

In the 16th century a parish school was founded. 1822 was the coal mine Ferdinand. Priest Leopold Markiefka founded in 1858 an orphanage. On July 17, 1892 foundation for the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Stefan was laid, which replaced the old wooden church shot. On October 25, 1894, the church was consecrated by Bishop George Breslauer of Kopp.

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia 1921 5.189 votes were cast ( 43.7 %) for remaining in Germany, 6,783 ( 56.3 %) voted for the annexation to Poland. 1922 was the place to Poland. July 15, 1924, the municipality Bogucice was incorporated into the city of Katowice.
