Boksum

Boksum is a village of the municipality Menameradiel in the Dutch province of Friesland. The old Dutch spelling Boxum is no longer in use.

History

Like other villages of Menameradiel Boksum was once the medieval Middle Sea. Parts of the old dike protection are still present today.

During the Eighty Years' War took place there on January 17, 1586 between the Spaniards under Johann Baptista von Taxis and Frisian citizens to the Battle of Boksum.
