Bolesław Leśmian

Bolesław Lesmian, actually Bolesław Lesman (born 22 January 1877 in Warsaw, † November 5, 1937 ibid ) was a Polish poet. He was the cousin of the poet January Brzechwa and nephew of the writer Antoni Lange.

Life and work

Spent his youth Lesmian in Kiev, where he also studied law. In 1901 he moved to Warsaw. He made ​​contact with the modernists and started for the magazine " Chimera " to write. From 1911 he worked in the Teatr Artystyczny with ( Art Theatre) in Warsaw. After the first world war he moved to Hrubieszów, where he worked as a notary, and later to Zamość, where he led his own notary office. In 1933 he became a member of the Polska Akademia Literatury. In 1935, he moved back with his wife and two daughters to Warsaw.

Lesmian took great pains in his poetry to the syllabotonische rule, and said in his poems philosophical and metaphysical topics.
