Bolesław Woytowicz

Bolesław Woytowicz ( born December 5, 1899 in Dunaivtsi, † June 11, 1980 in Katowice ) was a Polish composer, pianist and music teacher.

Woytowicz had piano lessons from 1913 and 1916-17 was a student of Aleksander Wielhorski. After studying philology at the University of Kiev, as well as mathematics and Law in Warsaw, he studied from 1920 to 1924 at the Warsaw Conservatory in piano and composition with Aleksander Michałowski Felicjan Szopski and Witold Maliszewski. From 1929 to 1932 he studied composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.

In 1924 he undertook a concert tour as a pianist through Europe, among other things, it led by France, Germany and Austria, Czechoslovakia and Switzerland, the Netherlands and the Baltic states. In 1927 he took part in the First International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. With his Piano Concerto in 1932, he won the Second Prize at the Kronenberg Composition Competition.

From 1924 to 1939 taught Woytowicz at the Warsaw Conservatory. In the time of World War II, he organized concerts in the salon Sztuki, where musicians such as Eugenia Uminska, Irena Dubiska, Witold Lutosławski, Andrzej Panufnik, Zbigniew Drzewiecki, Paweł Lewiecki, Ewa Bandrowska - Turska, Vittoria Calma, Ada Sari and Adam Didur occurred.

From 1945 to 1975 headed Woytowicz piano and composition classes at the State Academy of Music in Katowice. He also taught at the State Academy of Music in Warsaw and Krakow Academy of Music. Among his students the pianist Urszula Mitręga, Zofia Owińska, Irena Protasewicz, Monika Sikora- Wojtacha, Maria Szraiber and Zbigniew Śliwiński and the composer Tadeusz Baird, Wojciech Kilar, Witold Szalonek, Józef Świder, Romuald Twardowski and Peter Paul Koprowski.
