Boliniaceae

Camarops polysperma

The Boliniaceae are a family of ascomycetes, which are in a separate order Boliniales.

They grow mainly on wood. They make great, stromatische, coal-like fruiting bodies as the only subclass Sordariomycetidae. These are perithecia. The asci are small, the ascospores are brown, ellipsoidal, often flattened. Frequently they possess germ pores. Anamorphic are not known.

In the past, as the Boliniaceae Sordariales or Xylariales were placed in different orders. Molecular genetic studies have shown that it is not associated with any of these orders. It was placed in its own order Bolariales within the Sordariomycetidae. This family includes three genera:

  • Apiocamarops
  • Camarops Maroon ball sponge ( Camarops petersii )
