The Bolmsö in Swedish Småland is the largest island in the lake of Holmen. It is connected by a bridge and a ferry to the Rope Ferry Bolmia after Sunnaryd to the mainland. Main source of income is tourism.
On the island, a village of the same name lies with about 390 inhabitants. In the village Kyrkby, which also forms a stop for the small ferry, there is a church from the 19th century, a campsite and a restaurant with regional cuisine.
In the northern and eastern part of the island there are a number of tombs and other findings that can be dated back in part to the Stone Age. At times, the island was of great importance, as was, for example, a pagan temple named court on her. The island served once as a royal residence.
