Bolzano railway station ( Stazione di Bolzano ita ) with 5.5 million passengers per year, the most important railway station in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The city of Bolzano is a major transport hub on the north -south axis of the Munich and Innsbruck simultaneously connects with Verona, Bologna and Milan, on the other hand. History

1864 began construction of the Brenner railway, which went into operation in 1867 and was supplemented by the north of Bolzano branching Pusteria railway in 1871. The station was built at that time called Bahnhof Bozen -Gries, but was located in the municipality of Dodiciville.

1881 finally followed the railway line Bolzano-Merano, in turn, has since 1906 following the Vinschgau train to Mals. From 1898 to 1974 also still the Überetscher train to Kaltern had its starting point in Bolzano Station. During the fascism of the station underwent major renovations.

The station, designed by the Bolzano city architect Sebastian Altmann, was opened on 16 May 1859. 1927-1929 renewed Angiolo Mazzoni the facade with half columns. In the style of the time are two statues of Franz Ehrenhöfer, the allegories of mechanical and electrical power, male, bezw right. female, left seen from the square. From Ehrenhöfer the masks on the ledge, a Christopher Fountain and an allegory of the rivers of South Tyrol over the entrance to the tower originate east of the main building.

In little more than twenty years a structure has been created that connects the Bolzano valley basin, with many cities in Europe and at the same time benefiting the local economy. Thanks to the planar position of the southern neighborhoods and the construction of major road links to important craft, industrial and commercial enterprises could settle around the station.
