Bonfoh Abass

Abass (El Hadj ) Bonfoh (* 1948 in Kabou, Bassar Prefecture ) is a Togolese politician of 25 February was provisional president of the country until May 4, 2005.

His birthplace Kabou lies 380 km north of the capital Lomé.

He was elected by the National Assembly of the state after the resignation of Faure Gnassingbé on 25 February 2005 for 60 days for interim president until the next election on 24 April 2005. He is a member of the ruling party and deputy parliament speaker. The choice Bonfohs was controversial, since, according to the Constitution of Togo actually would have been the rightful successor Gnassingbés the President of the National Assembly, Fambaré Ouattara Natchaba. Bonfoh announced to continue the work Gnassingbés: he wanted to promote both the democratization and the development of the country.
