Bonifacio Bembo

Bonifacio Bembo (* 1420 in Brescia, † 1480 ) is a Northern Italian painter of the early Renaissance in the 15th century. He is known for portraits at the court of the Dukes of Milan.

He is detectable 1447-1477 and was born in Brescia. His father was a painter Giovanni, as well as his brothers Benedetto and Andrea and his nephew Giovanni Francesco Bembo. The date of his death is uncertain.

He was court painter to the Sforza in Milan. From him the portraits of the Duke of Milan Francesco Sforza and his wife Bianca Maria Visconti from the year 1462 are obtained ( Pinacoteca Brera ). He also painted the frescoes in the church of San Agostino in Cremona. He also decorated the ducal chapel in the castle of the Dukes of Milan and in the castle of Pavia ( with Vincenzo Foppa and Zanetto Bugatto ).

Bembo is still connected to the Gothic style, but takes up influences of the early Renaissance.
