Zechariah or Zachariah (Hebrew זְכַרְיָה בֶּן - בֶּרֶכְיָה בֶּן - עִדּוֹ הַנָּבִיא ) is called one of the Biblical prophets, whose writings belong to the Twelve Prophets of the Tanakh and the Old Testament. Zechariah belongs together with the books of Haggai and Malachi to the post-exilic prophetic books.

The author

The prophet Zechariah, after which the book is named, is called in Greek and Latin Bible Zacharias. Zechariah was active in the period shortly after the Babylonian exile (probably from -520 ) in Jerusalem and was a contemporary of the prophet Haggai.
