Boom bap

Boom bap refers to a subgenre of hip hop music. The name can be traced back to the KRS-One Plate Return of the Boom Bap 1993. The boom bap experienced its weddings in the 80s and 90s in the U.S. and differs significantly from today's musical commercially successful hip-hop productions. Nowadays boom bap is mostly published by niche artists and labels and rarely reaches the general public. Well-known artists of the subgenres are, for example, A Tribe Called Quest, EPMD Tha Funkee Homosapien or Del. By A $ AP Rocky boom bap is making a comeback.

Musical features

Boom bap describes more specific production techniques as the rap itself. It is characterized often by a hard kick ( bass drum ), followed by a high snare drum from. Hence the name of the boom bap, which is onomatopoeic understanding of this type of drums. Traditionally, analog samplers are used and sampled different styles of music, for example, records and recombined. On the use of digital synthesizers, as it is widely used in hip-hop today, is largely omitted.
