Bord na Móna ( Irish, b ˠ o ː ɾ ˠ D ˠ nə m ˠ o ː n ˠ ə, German: Torfbehörde, Torfagentur ) is a parastatal Irish company, which dominates the industrial mining and utilization of peat in the country.

History

The predecessor of the Bord na Mona, the Turf Development Board Ltd, was founded in 1933. The company was particularly during the Second World War is of great importance because the supply of coal was scarce and the national energy supply had to be ensured by peat.

The present company was founded in 1946 by the " peat - law of development " ( Turf Development Act ).
