Bořeň

The Bořeň ( German Borschen ) is a 539 m high rocky hill south of Bílina ( Bilin ) in the Bohemian Central Mountains in northern Bohemia (Czech Republic). Typical is the shape of a reclining lion, which is also the name Biliner lion is derived. Striking are the steep, up to 100 m high cliffs indented from phonolite ( phonolite ), which also serve as a mountain sports grounds. The mountain is considered the greatest sounding stone monolith in Central Europe. Since 1977, the mountain stands on 23.4 acres as a National Nature Reserve protected.

Location

At the foot of the mountain the Bílina ( Biela ), accompanied by European Route 442 and the railroad Ústí nad Labem - Chomutov flows. To the north is the city Bílina ( Bilin ) with the spa Sauerbrunn. To the south are the small towns Hrobčice ( Hrobschitz ) Chouc ( Kautz ) and Liběšice ( Liebschitz ). On the shoulder of the mountain, the Chata pod Bořeňem is ( Borsch house ), a mountain inn.

To the north is the long-range Mining Landscape Most ( Brux ), and Bílina Duchcov ( Dux ) with their deep lignite mines and large slag heaps. In the east and south, the view to the mountains of the Bohemian Uplands with Milešovka ( Milleschauer ) Hradišťany ( Radel stone), Mila ( Millayer ) Raná ( Rannayer mountain) and Oblík ( Hoblík ).

Botanical features

Note the subalpine vegetation of the mountain that is famous especially the Borsch Aster, a variety of alpine aster. Typical of the mountain are also meadow anemone, Cowslip and Real daphne.

Rock Climbing

The mountaineering development of Bořeň began in the early 20th century by members of the German and Austrian Alpine Club DuÖAV, Section Saaz (now Žatec ). Currently exist on Bořeň about 400 climbing routes of all levels. Is climbed in both the high solid walls as well as some free-standing towers. The Bořeň is now regarded as the most important non- sandstone climbing area in the Czech Republic.

From Bílina from leading a " green " marked circular trail over the mountain. From this a turnoff leads to the summit.
