Borgeby Castle

The excavations in 1998 brought a mint to light that shows that the castle until 1536 was a castle of the archbishops of Lund.

The castle has undergone various structural changes. " Börjes tower " probably dates from the 15th century. Since the demolition of the east wing in 1860, he is at liberty and restored in 1870. The gatehouse dates from the 16th century, but has older parts. The present main building was built in 1650-1660. The stable building of brick was built in 1744.

In the 14th century there was a stud, as in the will of Archbishop Karl Eriksson († 1334 ) shows. In 1452 the Castle of Sweden and in 1658 was burned by the Danes. According excavation finds it must be burned in the 16th century. The sources are silent, however, about it. It is believed that this was done in connection with the Peasants' Revolt in 1525. After the Reformation, several Danish and Swedish noble families had held this castle, since it Christian III. had pledged to the noble Mayor of Malmö, Jørgen Kock. Today it is a museum for the paintings of the painter Ernst Nordlind whose father had the castle in 1886 at an auction. The building is a listed building.
