Boris Godunov (play)

Boris Godunov is a 1825 drama directed by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin arisen.

After Friedrich Schiller had begun already to deal with the historical person of Boris Godunov remaining in the fragment tragedy Demetrius succeeded in Pushkin 's drama Boris Godunov a sweeping series of scenes about the lure of power over powerlessness and fickleness of the people. The piece is written in the spirit and style of the history plays of William Shakespeare. It was written in 1825 and 1831 published but released to the performance of the censors until 1866. It consists of 25 scenes and is mainly written in blank verse.

Adaptations

Modest Mussorgsky used Pushkin's drama as one of the texts for his opera Boris Godunov, whose first version was created in the period 1868-1870. Until 1872, he revised the work, adding more scenes.

Sergei Bondarchuk filmed the drama in 1986. His adaptation was in competition at the International Film Festival of Cannes 1986.
