Bornean slow loris

Nycticebus menagensis is a wet nose primacy from the kind of slow lorises, which occurs in some regions of the Southeast Asian island of Borneo, and some southern Philippine Islands.

Features

Nycticebus menagensis achieved an average head -body length of 27.4 cm and is similar in body shape all other slow lorises. In contrast to all other slow lorises, he has a very bright, more beige than brown fur. The face mask is light brown and contrasts little with the rest of the coat. The ears are usually not covered with fur. The dark spot around the eyes is very pale, top and bottom edges of variable that can extend below the zygomatic arch with diffuse edges. The strip between the eyes is narrow. The spot on top of the head diffuse band in the ears variable but never wide.

Dissemination

Nycticebus menagensis lives on the north and east coast of Borneo ( Kalimantan Timur, Sabah, Brunei ), and on some islands of the southern Philippines. Type locality are the Philippine Tawi - Tawi Islands ( Sulu Archipelago ). In parts of its range in Borneo it occurs together with Nycticebus kayan.

Endangering

Nycticebus menagensis is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN listed as threatened ( Vulnerable ). Main threat to the species, the destruction of habitat through deforestation and the fishing for the purpose of animal husbandry.
