Botanischer Garten Bielefeld

The Botanical Garden Bielefeld is located on the southern slope of Teutoburg Forest belonging to the Kahlenberg in the southwest of the East Westphalian city of Bielefeld. It was founded in 1912 as an extension to the St. John's Cemetery until it was discovered the extraordinary diversity of plants on the site. In subsequent years, the first new plants were sown, so that the garden in 1915 already contained 500 different species.

During the Second World War, the one -acre site was used as farmland and consequently destroyed much of the plant. Today, located in the garden of about 3000 different plant species. A special feature is the extensive rhododendron and azalea collection, and the collection of ferns along the Farntreppe. The Department of ferns is still young and has been implemented by the Friends of the Botanical Garden as a project Farntreppe 2007.

In the center of the complex is a 1823 built Westphalian farmhouse. This attractive farmhouse is shown eV in the logo of the company founded in 1998 development fund of Friends of the Botanical Garden of Bielefeld. The Friends of the Botanic Garden initiated projects for the development and maintenance of the Botanical Garden of Bielefeld.

Another special feature of the Botanical Garden Bielefeld is the Erdzeituhr, giving visitors illustrates the sequence and duration of geological eras.

The park is open year round and admission is free.
