Bouillante
Bouillante is a municipality with 7513 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe.
Geography
Bouillante situated in the western area of Basse- Terre, on the Côte sous le vent, a coast on the Caribbean Sea. The municipality has an interest in a mountainous landscape, so that the highest point of 1088 meters. M is located. The populated area along the coast is divided into a northern and a southern district. Both are connected by one of the main roads to the road network of the island of Guadeloupe. The neighboring municipalities are Vieux- Habitants, Petit -Bourg and Pointe- Noire.
History
Bouillante is the earliest documented town in Guadeloupe - a record comes from the year 1638, the population was at that time mainly from families together. . The country is particularly suitable for the establishment of farms. Primarily, coffee and cocoa are grown.
Attractions
Bouillante is involved in the National Park of Guadeloupe. The Cousteau is since 1955 a 400 -hectare area in which fishing found its way.
Economy and infrastructure
In Bouillante a Geothermal power plant has been operating since 1984. In addition to the plant in Soultz -sous -Forêts, which is still in the experimental stage, it is the only one in France.
