Bouizakarne

Bouizakarne (Arabic بو يزكارن ) is a city in the province of Guelmim in the region Guelmim-Es Semara in southern Morocco.

Location

Bouizakarne lies at an altitude of about 630 m above sea level. inst in the western foothills of the Anti-Atlas, about halfway between Agadir and Tiznit in the north and Tan -Tan and Guelmim on the south by the important main road N1. Moreover ends or starts here the N12, which runs south of the Anti- Atlas Mountains over the cities Taghjijt, Akka, Tata to Foum - Zguid; an extension of up to Zagora is planned.

Demographics

In the second half of the 20th century, especially after the occupation of the Western Sahara territories ( November 1975), the small Berber village has grown from one location with approximately 500 inhabitants of a small town with about 15,000 inhabitants. Most immigrants are Berber families from the more remote mountainous regions, fleeing the increasing dryness in the cities.

Economy

Livelihood of the population was for centuries the oases; it dominated the principle of self-sufficiency, which was gradually abandoned because of the improvement of transport during and after the French colonial rule. At the intersection of two major roads located, today the transportation and trade play important roles in the economy of the city.
