Boulder

A boulder, Schroppen, block or Felszersatz is a large stone in nature or as a building material. The size can range from tens of centimeters to several meters.

In the construction standard DIN 4022 Schroppen or blocks are defined as blocks a particle size above 63 mm up to a maximum transportable size. Schroppen coarser than gravel and either broken minerals, natural quarry stone ( rubble ) or rubble.

Use in construction

Schroppen be used as backfill material, for example,

  • For start-ups of all kinds
  • In road
  • In the construction of railway tracks
  • In drainages
  • In hydraulic (water blocks, shore blocks) in coastal protection
  • In flood protection in the dams and dykes
  • In torrents,
  • For Gewässerkorrektion
