Boulder
A boulder, Schroppen, block or Felszersatz is a large stone in nature or as a building material. The size can range from tens of centimeters to several meters.
In the construction standard DIN 4022 Schroppen or blocks are defined as blocks a particle size above 63 mm up to a maximum transportable size. Schroppen coarser than gravel and either broken minerals, natural quarry stone ( rubble ) or rubble.

Schroppen be used as backfill material, for example,
- For start-ups of all kinds
- In road
- In the construction of railway tracks
- In drainages
- In hydraulic (water blocks, shore blocks) in coastal protection
- In flood protection in the dams and dykes
- In torrents,
- For Gewässerkorrektion
