The Boutonne is a river in France, which runs in the Poitou -Charentes. It springs from the center of town chief Boutonne, drained generally in a southwesterly direction and opens after 99 kilometers at Carillon, in the municipality of Cabariot as right tributary of the Charente. On their way the Boutonne crosses the departments of Deux -Sèvres and Charente- Maritime.

Shipping

The Boutonne is channeled from its mouth to Saint -Jean- d'Angély to a length of 31 kilometers and navigable by ships. It has 4 locks for ship standard Becquey ( 30.50 x 5.50 m ), and a mobile weir at the mouth, which is already exposed to the tides and can be opened only with certain Tidenständen. Cargo shipping is no longer meaningful, tourism with sports and houseboats is here but barely penetrated.
