The Charente is a river in western France, which runs into the regions of Limousin and Poitou- Charentes. It rises in the municipality of Chéronnac, in the canton of Rochechouart. First, they drained to the northwest, rotating at Civray south and finally reached Angoulême. There it turns west and flows past Jarnac and Cognac, about to Saintes. Recently it flows to the northwest and flows below Rochefort in the Bay of Biscay in the Atlantic Ocean. The mouth is located opposite the Ile d'Oleron. The river is 381 km long and navigable from the mouth to Angoulême to a length of approximately 150 kilometers by ship. Below Saint- Savinien he is already affected by tidal and forms an estuary. The Charente was once an important transport route for the famous French brandy, which is referred to by its origin as cognac. Today the river is mainly used by tourists with sports and houseboats.
