Bow Island, Alberta

Bow Iceland is a small town in southern Alberta, Canada.

History

In 1900 reached the first families Bow Iceland. 1910 was followed by the official village status in March 1912 Bow Iceland was classified as a city. About the origin of the name Bow Iceland, there are many stories. The most well-known is that the 25 km further west community Grassy Lake formerly called Bow Iceland and their names were simply reversed.

In the early 1950s, the water supply was extended to the surrounding areas, which had a doubling of the population result. Bow Iceland is surrounded by about 450 square kilometers of fertile land area. Some of the latest and most modern irrigation systems in the world are located there.

Culture

Blues at the Bow Live is a 1994 opened Blue concert program. The always sold-out concerts will take place in the historic Bow Theatre and attract guests from across the province.

Had Situated at 790 meters altitude city in 2006 a population of 1790, which was distributed to 631 households. With an area of 5.92 km ² gives a population density of 302.4 inhabitants per square kilometer.
