Bowery Electric is a duo from New York, founded in 1994, consisting of Lawrence Chandler and Martha Schwendenerstrasse.

Music

The band's music defies easy classification. Bowery Electric were praised by critics for experimenting with different genres. They mix elements of Ambient, Drone, Electro and Experimental with soul, dub, disco, experimental rock and hip -hop. They were one of the first American groups that stood with laptop, mixer and sampler on stage, accompanied by bass, drums and guitars.

Current Status

Although the band never officially broke up, they pause since the tour for this album Lushlife in 2000. Both members appeared individually every now and again, but the more sporadic. Chandler played with Experimental Audio Research, Schwendenerstrasse has recorded under the name of EchoStar. In 2003, she published a downtempo album called Sola. On the future of Bowery Electric, there has been no such statement.
