Box girder bridge

Box girder bridges are girder bridges whose supports are reinforced by a box-like structure. The typical types consist of tension or reinforced concrete. The bridge elements are particularly suitable torsion and for medium spans.

The constructed by Fritz Leonhardt Deutz Bridge in Cologne was the first steel box girder bridge in the world (1948 ). The 1980 south scheduled twin bridge was carried out with the same profile in prestressed concrete. The world's most tensioned box girder bridge is the Zoobrücke also in Cologne.
