Boysen Reservoir

The Boysen State Park is a state park near the town of Shoshoni in Fremont County, in the center of the U.S. state of Wyoming. Core of the Park is the Boysen Reservoir, a water reservoir at the southern foot of the Owl Creek Mountains, at the entrance of the Wind River Canyon.

History

With the construction of the first dam, which dammed the waters of the Wind River and a connected hydropower plant, which achieved an output of 710 kilowatts, was started in 1908 by Asmus Boysen. According to him also the current park is named. The electricity produced here was used mainly for the operation of the surrounding mines. Electricity generation in 1923 set after a flood destroyed the power plant. Leftovers from the old dam can be seen today. The current dam was completed in 1951; the power plant delivers an output of 15,000 kilowatts. In 1956, the park was inaugurated.
