Brabrand

Brabrand [ bʀɑ bʀɑn ː ] is a district of Aarhus in Denmark, which is about 6 kilometers west of the center and just north of the Brabrand Lake located. Brabrand was incorporated in 1970 to Aarhus and has 19,000 inhabitants.

In the northern part Brabrands there is a nature reserve that surrounds the Holmstrup Farm. South of Brabrand is 800 meters wide and about 3 km long Brabrand Lake, which adjoins the Årlev Lake and is crossed by the Aarhus Å. On the shore of this lake, the beautiful church of Brabrand, which was built in the early 13th century is located.

Within Brabrand two deprived areas of Denmark have developed with Gellerup and Toveshøj. 86 % of the population has an immigrant background, especially for people with Arabic, Turkish, Somali or Vietnamese origin have settled here. In recent years there have been repeated clashes between the Danish police and residents of the settlements.
