Brad Ascalon

Brad Ascalon ( born March 7, 1977) is an American industrial designer.

Ascalon grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He delved early into the world of art and design. His grandfather Maurice Ascalon (1913-2003), a sculptor born in Hungary and industrial designer, founded along with his father, the Israeli-born artist David Ascalon (born 1945), the art and design company " Ascalon Studios ". It creates site-specific works of art and furnishings for places of worship and public spaces. Against this background, Brad learned to deal with different materials and artistic media, including metal sculptures, stained glass and mosaics.

Ascalon's first artistic works were written in music form. From an early age he plays guitar and piano, and eventually became a songwriter and composer. In the second half of the 1990s, while he composed music and performed, Ascalon sought a degree in liberal arts at Rutgers University.

Ascalon research in the field of visual art, in which he appropriated abstract painting. He experimented with his musical experience by combining music with painting, especially modern jazz and classical music.

After graduating from Rutgers University, moved to Manhattan Ascalon. While he drew on, he worked in the advertising and music industries. His desire to think abstract following, he changes course and studied industrial design at Pratt Institute in New York to obtain a master. During his studies, Ascalon worked as an intern for many prominent designers, including Karim Rashid.

Today Ascalon's focus is on furniture design, but he also deals with consumer goods and packaging design. Its design tends to ignore the traditional form of objects. Ascalon looks when designing the function of an object regardless of its traditional form and designed it from scratch. In 2005, the international London-based designer journal " Wallpaper * " Ascalon on its annual list of the ten best young designers in the world.
