BRAIN Initiative

The Brain Activity Map Project or Initiative BRAIN ( Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neuro Technologies) is a US-based neuroscience major research project to map the brain of man. Objective is to record the activity of all its estimated 100 billion nerve cells.

The interdisciplinary project was initiated in the U.S. in early 2013. It will run for a period of ten years. The financial position is still unclear, in conversation are around 3 billion dollars ( 300 million per year). Responsible is the Executive Office of the U.S. president belonging Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Is supported the project by the National Institutes of Health, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the National Science Foundation, co-operation partners are the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Allen Institute for Brain Science. In the design of representatives of companies like Google, Microsoft and Qualcomm were involved.
