Branched-chain amino acid

As a branched-chain amino acids ( BCAA abbreviated for English Branched - Chain Amino Acids ) refers to the amino acids valine, leucine and isoleucine. They are among the essential amino acids, so they can not be produced by the body itself, but must be supplied in the diet. They are present in all protein-containing foods.

Applications

In medicine, branched-chain amino acids are used, inter alia, in liver cirrhosis and in intensive care. A possible Use in the elderly is discussed, so far, the study location but limited to animal testing.

In sports, branch chain amino acids in the motor sports and endurance sports are used as a dietary supplement. The desired effects are an improved muscle building with less muscle breakdown and subsequent fatigue in endurance exercise. An advantage of the isolated administration as a dietary supplement is not scientifically proven.
